Over 95,000 Voters Marked ‘Ineligible’ in Uttarakhand SIR Amid Opposition Backlash
The office of Uttarakhand’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) revealed that over 95,000 out of nearly 1.73 lakh Form 7 applications filed during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) involve voters flagged as “ineligible”.
The automated deletion requests stemmed from the Election Commission's software catching "logical discrepancies".
Affected individuals either failed to present verification documents or missed scheduled hearings.
Over 85% of these cases are concentrated across four plain districts: Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Dehradun, and Nainital.
The massive tally has triggered intense political friction. The opposition Congress has alleged targeted voter suppression and widespread misuse of automated software, while the ruling BJP attributes the high figures to regional migration and population shifts.
Amid the controversy, election authorities emphasized that the classification is not a permanent disenfranchisement.
With the final electoral roll slated for publication on October 3, affected citizens retain the option to submit Form 6 with proper documentation to secure reinstatement.
