The Bihar government is facing intense political pressure over the state's law-and-order situation, compounded by rare and open pushback from within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Public outrage has surged following a string of shocking viral videos depicting public harassment and assault in districts like Jamui and Samastipur.
While the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has cornered the administration over rising crime and police apathy, dissent has unexpectedly erupted from the ruling camp.
In a scathing critique, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Shambhu Sharan Patel declared that policing in the state has "completely collapsed".
Highlighting administrative bottlenecks, Patel claimed that local superintendents of police routinely ignore distress calls and demanded a total overhaul of the state's bureaucracy.
