SIT Files Chargesheet in Ram Mandir Donation Theft Case Champat Rai Named as Witness

Ayodhya: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed an extensive chargesheet spanning up to 74,000 pages before the Anti-Corruption Court in Ayodhya regarding the high-profile Ram Mandir donation theft case.

The exhaustive investigation officially cleared former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai, former trustee Anil Mishra, former administrator Gopal Rao, and interim general secretary Krishna Mohan of direct criminal culpability, listing them instead as prosecution witnesses among a total of 133 listed witnesses.

Instead of targeting senior trust management, the legal action centers on eight arrested staff members, counting agents, and associates—including Subhash Srivastava and Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu.

They face severe charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy, alongside provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Driven by granular CCTV footage analysis, digital trail recoveries, and forensic audits, the SIT uncovered 105 distinct instances where cash offerings were covertly removed or siphoned off during the counting process.

Investigators have successfully recovered roughly ₹79.85 lakh in embezzled cash from the accused.

While the broader financial transfer and high-value artifact verification processes of the temple received a clean chit, the case now moves forward to trial as the court formally processes the massive document submission.
