IAS Officer Mandeep K. Bhandari Appointed New CBSE Chairperson
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of senior bureaucrat Mandeep K. Bhandari as Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on September 25, 2026.
To facilitate his posting, the Central Government temporarily upgraded the position to the rank and pay of an Additional Secretary.
Bhandari is a 2001-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the AGMUT cadre and an MBBS gold medallist.
Prior to taking over at the CBSE, he served as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and held additional charge as CEO of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
He replaces senior IAS officer Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, who held the interim charge.
Bhandari’s appointment comes at a crucial transition period as the CBSE prepares for its upcoming examination cycle and resolves issues surrounding its On-Screen Marking (OSM) digital evaluation system.
