ECI Orders ECINet Review, Relaxes Voter Verification and Extends Deadlines
Amid internal friction regarding IT management, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a comprehensive review of its ECINet portal by a specialized committee, which will include an independent technical expert from an IIT or IIIT.
To ease voter inconvenience during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the poll panel announced that citizens flagged for unmapped data or logical discrepancies are no longer required to make personal physical appearances for hearings.
Instead, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will directly visit homes to collect the necessary documentation.
Additionally, addressing administrative requests, the ECI extended electoral roll deadlines.
For Delhi, the deadline for filing claims and objections is now pushed to October 30, 2026, with disposals running until November 30.
For Maharashtra, claims and objections are open until October 12, 2026, and disposal will continue through November 10. The Commission stressed that all decisions were unanimously approved.
