AAIB Targets October 2026 for Ahmedabad Air India Crash Draft Report
Ahmedabad : The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has informed the Supreme Court that the draft final report on the tragic June 2025 Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad will be ready by October 2026.
In an affidavit, the AAIB stated that primary investigation activities will wrap up within six weeks, followed by a rigorous analysis phase. The bureau strongly opposed publicizing sensitive evidence—such as cockpit voice recordings, witness statements, and ATC logs—citing "absolute statutory prohibitions" under India's Aircraft Rules 2025 and international ICAO treaties designed to protect safety probe integrity.
The AAIB emphasized that the complex inquiry aims solely to prevent future accidents, not to apportion blame. The submission responds to a petition by the Federation of Indian Pilots and the deceased pilot's 91-year-old father, who are seeking a court-monitored probe into the disaster that claimed 260 lives.
