SC Upholds Bail for Lalu Yadav in Fodder Scam

New Delhi : In a major relief for RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the bail granted to him by the Jharkhand High Court in the multi-crore fodder scam cases.

A bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.B. Varale dismissed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) appeals, stating it would be inappropriate to interfere with the 77-year-old leader's liberty at this stage.

The CBI had challenged the bail, arguing that Yadav’s multiple sentences should run consecutively rather than concurrently, meaning he had not completed half his prison term.

Denying the CBI's plea, the top court kept the legal questions open but directed the Jharkhand High Court to fast-track and decide the main criminal appeals against his conviction, preferably within six months.

Lalu Prasad Yadav, who underwent a kidney transplant in 2022, will remain out of prison.
