Trump Reimposes Iran Blockade, Demands 20% Hormuz Fee

President Trump has shattered a month-long interim truce by reinstating a U.S. naval blockade on Iran and declaring the U.S. "THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT." Citing maritime security costs, Trump announced a 20% fee on eligible cargo passing through the vital waterway, which handles a fifth of global oil supplies.

The proposed toll could add $16 per barrel to crude prices, causing oil to spike past $80.

Tehran responded with swift mockery and military defiance. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sarcastically agreed that the Strait's true guardian deserves compensation, declaring that "Iran has always been the GUARDIAN... FOREVER" while calling Trump’s fee "too much."

Meanwhile, the IRGC launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes against U.S. bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. The International Maritime Organization has condemned the toll, stating there is no legal basis for taxing international straits.
