Bangkok Pub Fire Leaves 27 Dead, Dozens Injured
Bangkok: A devastating fire at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district has killed at least 27 people and injured 63 others, with 22 in critical condition.
The blaze erupted around midnight, reportedly triggered by an electrical fault in a circuit breaker near the stage. Witnesses described a brief blackout followed by an explosion and a rapid onslaught of thick, toxic smoke.
Firefighters controlled the flames within 30 minutes, but dense smoke proved fatal. Many victims became trapped and suffocated in the restrooms after rushing toward the back of the venue in pitch darkness.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed the pub held proper permits but noted that crowded interior layouts and blocked paths likely hindered evacuations. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene as officials launched a full safety investigation into the tragedy.
