SC Demands SIT Progress Report on Ram Temple Donation Probe
New Delhi : On July 13, 2026, the Supreme Court of India directed the Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) to submit a comprehensive status report on its probe into the alleged embezzlement of Ram Temple donation funds.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, ordered that the report detail the SIT's full composition. The court also issued notices to the Central government, the UP government, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The order follows multiple PILs expressing doubt over the state SIT's ability to handle complex financial fraud. Petitioners are demanding a Supreme Court-monitored CBI probe, alongside a forensic audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) into all donations received since February 2020.
While the UP police have already taken eight individuals into custody, the apex court will review the SIT's progress report during the next hearing on July 20, 2026.
