Jharkhand Panchayat Fines Child Rapist, Uses Rs 20,000 for Village Feast
Gumla: In a shocking incident in Gumla district, Jharkhand, a parallel village court attempted to settle the brutal sexual assault of a three-year-old girl by imposing a fine on the accused instead of involving the police.
The informal panchayat ordered the accused, Sunil Lohra, to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh to suppress the crime. Out of this, an upfront payment of Rs 20,000 was collected and immediately spent by the village members on a feast featuring meat and liquor.
The cover-up attempt was foiled when a local resident secretly tipped off the authorities. A police team raided the village while the feast was underway, arresting Lohra on the spot. An FIR has been registered based on the victim's mother's complaint, and police are investigating the villagers involved in the illegal settlement.
