No Contempt, But FIR Lodged: Law Students Remanded After Flinging Papers in Supreme Court

New Delhi: Two law students from Lucknow University, Prabal Pratap Singh (24) and Chander Bhan (23), have been remanded to police custody following their arrest for creating a chaotic ruckus inside the Supreme Court on July 10.

FIR has been registered at Delhi's Tilak Marg Police Station under Sections 132, 221, 224, and 3(5) of the BNS, among other sections.

The incident occurred in Court No. 13 during a hearing before Justices K.V. Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe. Singh aggressively demanded an order against a Lucknow police officer, shouting, "Mr. Judicial Servant, I order you..." When questioned by the bench, Singh flung a 185-page petition into the air and hurled explicit abuse directed at the Chief Justice of India.

Security personnel immediately detained the duo, and the court dismissed their petition. Following a formal security complaint, the Delhi Police registered an FIR at the Tilak Marg police station, charging the students with disrupting judicial proceedings and obstructing public servants.
