Punjab Congress Shocker: Raja Warring Resigns as State Chief Ahead of 2027 Assembly Polls

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has stepped down as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), triggering a major organizational overhaul just months before the state assembly elections.

Warring, who took charge in April 2022, tendered his resignation following an internal review led by newly appointed Punjab affairs in-charge Sachin Pilot.

The assessment highlighted persistent factional friction and internal dissent within the state unit.

The high command is expected to name his successor within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Former minister and Congress Working Committee member Vijay Inder Singla has emerged as the frontrunner to replace him, viewed as a strategic choice to balance community equations as a prominent Hindu face.

Other contenders under consideration include Pargat Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

This high-stakes shakeup reflects Congress’s urgent push to mend internal fractures, unify warring factions, and recalibrate its campaign strategy to mount a formidable challenge against rivals in the upcoming electoral contest.
