BJP Focuses 54% of Election Funds on West Bengal Campaign
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spent a massive Rs 529.38 crore during the five-state assembly election cycle, directing a staggering 54% of its central funds exclusively toward West Bengal.
According to expenditure reports submitted to the Election Commission, the party allocated Rs 286 crore to the high-stakes West Bengal campaign.
This included Rs 217.16 crore for general party propagation and Rs 69.83 crore for candidate-specific support.
The remaining funds were distributed among other poll-bound regions, with Assam receiving Rs 96.26 crore, Kerala Rs 82.67 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 51.56 crore, and Puducherry Rs 11.89 crore.
Despite total central election expenditures, the party's overall finances remained robust, closing the cycle with Rs 7,689.06 crore in reserves after reporting receipts of Rs 1,494 crore.
While individual candidates face strict spending caps, political parties in India enjoy no legal ceilings on general campaign propagation outlays.
