The Samajwadi Party has officially announced veteran leader Professor Ram Gopal Yadav and corporate executive Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani as its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.

Both nominees filed their nomination papers in Lucknow, accompanied by party national president Akhilesh Yadav. Ram Gopal Yadav, a core strategist and outgoing general secretary, is securing another term in the Upper House.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of Nathwani—a prominent corporate leader and sports administrator associated with Reliance Industries—marked a major talking point and political surprise.

The filing kicks off the party's formal campaign for the biennial upper-house polls. Political opponents have already begun scrutinizing the candidate lineup, setting the stage for a closely watched legislative contest as the state prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle.
