October Bank Holidays 2026: Plan Around Festive Closures
As October 2026 brings a heavy lineup of festivals—including Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Karva Chauth—bank branches will experience frequent closures.
Depending on the state and city, financial institutions will remain shuttered for up to 11 to 14 days when factoring in regional celebrations alongside regular weekend offs.
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, the month begins with a nationwide holiday on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti.
Mid-month brings intensive celebrations for Durga Puja and Dussehra stretching between October 17 and October 23, heavily impacting cities like Kolkata, Bengaluru, Agartala, and Guwahati.
Additional regional observances include Laxmi Puja on October 26, Karva Chauth in Shimla on October 29, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Birthday in Ahmedabad on October 31.
Moreover, all standard weekly offs apply, including every Sunday alongside the second Saturday (October 10) and fourth Saturday (October 24).
Despite physical branches being closed during these festive windows, your banking needs will not stall.
Digital financial systems—such as UPI, mobile apps, internet banking, and ATM networks—will remain fully operational around the clock.
However, if your tasks require physical branch access like locker visits, document updates, or clearing specific drafts, it is wise to verify your local schedule beforehand.
