HDFC Bank Appoints Anup Bagchi as MD and CEO Amid Governance Spotlight
HDFC Bank has officially named Anup Bagchi as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) for a three-year term, effective October 27, 2026.
This leadership transition follows the tenure completion of outgoing chief Sashidhar Jagdishan, who chose not to seek reappointment amid intensive governance scrutiny, internal regulatory spotlights, and complex post-merger integration challenges with parent HDFC.
Bagchi, a former ICICI executive with extensive financial sector experience, steps into the role at a critical junction for India’s largest private lender.
His immediate priorities will include strengthening compliance frameworks, restoring robust internal governance, resolving lingering merger-related hurdles, and reinvigorating stakeholder confidence.
Market analysts view this appointment as a strategic reset aimed at steering the banking giant toward stable, compliant, and sustainable long-term growth.
