Tragedy Strikes Diveagar Beach: Eight College Students Drown During Class Trip in Raigad
In a devastating incident, eight college students drowned off Diveagar beach in Maharashtra's Raigad district during a group picnic.
The victims, primarily Class 11 and 12 students from a private coaching institute in Pune's Alandi area, were part of an excursion comprising roughly 48 students.
Preliminary reports indicate that the group ventured into the sea, where they tragically misjudged the treacherous underwater currents and rapid depth changes.
Despite immediate local assistance and swift intervention by rescue authorities and coastal police, all eight students lost their lives.
Their bodies have since been recovered, plunging the educational institute and families into profound grief.
This heartbreaking event has triggered widespread concern over student safety protocols during leisure outings and coastal excursions, highlighting the critical need for strict lifeguard supervision, warning signage, and enhanced safety measures at popular tourist beaches across Maharashtra.
