PDP Calls for Protests on August 5 to Demand Restoration of Article 370

The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), headed by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has announced plans for peaceful demonstrations across Jammu and Kashmir on August 5. The date marks the anniversary of the Indian Parliament’s 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A, which revoked the region's special autonomous status and split it into two Union Territories.

Speaking at the party's foundation day event in Srinagar, PDP leadership reiterated that the revocation of J&K’s constitutional protections was executed without public consent.

The scheduled district-level protests aim to demand the full restoration of Article 370, the immediate release of political detainees, the resumption of cross-LoC trade, and greater local control over natural and hydroelectric power resources.

PDP leaders framed August 5 as a day of solemn political protest and reflection for the region.
