Meta Summoned Over Accidental Block of PM Modi’s Video
India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has summoned top Meta executives after a video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefly blocked on Facebook. The video, addressing student concerns and legislation regarding exam paper leaks, was temporarily replaced with a notice stating it was unavailable in India due to legal restrictions.
Meta swiftly issued a public apology, clarifying that the removal was caused by an automated technical glitch rather than a formal legal request, and access was promptly restored. However, Indian officials viewed the blackout as a critical breach of moderation standards, prompting MeitY to demand a formal explanation regarding Meta's algorithmic errors and content review protocols to prevent similar errors in the future.
