Mumbai FDA Suspends Licences of Five Elite Clubs Over Severe Hygiene Lapses
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the FSSAI licences of five prominent Mumbai establishments—including the Cricket Club of India, MIG Cricket Club, RK Juhu Gymkhana, Aparna Juhu Gymkhana, and Willingdon Sports Club—following a rigorous state-wide inspection drive.
Authorities uncovered alarming hygiene violations during the crackdown, notably live cockroach and insect infestations, moldy vegetables, expired food items, and condensation dripping directly onto stored food.
Additionally, kitchens lacked proper raw-and-cooked food segregation, and staff routinely handled meals without mandatory protective gear like hairnets or gloves.
Meanwhile, Goregaon Sports Club was ordered to shut down its food service entirely for operating without a valid registration.
All six clubs have been directed to immediately halt kitchen operations and rectify structural and sanitation deficiencies before seeking formal FDA re-inspection and clearance to resume business.
