Lessons from December Disruption: IndiGo Strengthens Operational Resilience

IndiGo Managing Director and co-founder Rahul Bhatia acknowledged the airline's severe operational breakdown from the previous December as one of its most challenging periods.

The massive disruptions, largely triggered by difficulties adapting to new pilot duty norms, heavily impacted passengers and frontline staff.

In the 2025–26 annual report, Bhatia confirmed that IndiGo has implemented all necessary measures to learn from the crisis and fortify its resilience.

The carrier has upgraded its internal systems, digital capabilities, and rostering processes to prevent future failures.

This turbulence also prompted major leadership shifts, culminating in the appointment of Willie Walsh as CEO.

Moving forward, IndiGo is focused on stabilizing its network, enhancing operational dependability, and driving aggressive international expansion over the coming decade to position India as a premier global aviation hub.
