Mirabai Chanu Lifts India to First Gold at CWG 2026
Ace Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu delivered a historic triumph at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, securing India’s first gold medal of the multi-sport event.
Competing in the women’s 48kg category, the 31-year-old Olympic silver medallist dominated the field to capture her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold, completing a remarkable three-peat following her victories at Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.
Mirabai set new standards by lifting 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk, amassing a winning total of 190kg.
She finished comfortably ahead of Nigeria's Ruth Asuquo Nyong and Malaysia's Irene Jane Henry.
This stellar achievement marks Mirabai’s fourth overall CWG medal—including her 2014 silver—further cementing her status as one of India's greatest sporting icons as she looks ahead to future international arenas.
