Congress Chief Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to Meet CJI Over 'Vote Chori' and 'Undeclared Emergency'
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi are scheduled to meet Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
The meeting aims to apprise the judiciary of an alleged "undeclared Emergency" and threats to democratic institutions.
Kharge accused the central government of crippling the Election Commission's autonomy and shielding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar through statutory immunities under the 2023 Act.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Kharge claimed these measures facilitate electoral malpractices and "vote chori".
The move follows intense protests in New Delhi demanding the CEC's resignation, which faced massive security crackdowns and thousands of police deployments.
Stressing that they are not making legal demands, Kharge stated they will approach the CJI with "folded hands" to brief him on the national situation.
