US Indicts Lawrence Bishnoi Over Nijjar Assassination
Washington: The US Department of Justice has unsealed federal indictments charging jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his Canada-based associate Goldy Brar with ordering the June 2023 assassination of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.
Part of a massive international crackdown dubbed "Operation Hard Ball," the indictments target three India-based transnational organized crime groups. Prosecutors allege Bishnoi orchestrated the hit from an Indian prison via encrypted apps.
The multi-nation operation has charged 37 individuals and arrested 24 across the US, Canada, and Europe, dismantling a syndicate heavily involved in global narcotics trafficking and widespread diaspora extortion.
