15 Indian Tourists Die in Vietnam Speedboat Tragedy
New Delhi: At least 15 Indian tourists drowned on Saturday after a tourist speedboat capsized in rough seas off Vietnam’s Phú Quốc Island.
The vessel was carrying 36 people—including 32 Indian nationals and four crew members—from Hon May Rut Island to An Thoi Port when high waves and strong winds overturned the boat.
A massive rescue operation involving nearby tourist vessels, the Vietnamese Navy, and the Coast Guard managed to save 21 survivors, who were rushed to local hospitals.
Authorities reported that several victims tragically became trapped inside the capsized hull. The 15 deceased include 13 men and two women.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has set up emergency helplines (+84 36 281 7930 / +84 91 308 9165) to assist grieving families. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences, while Vietnamese officials have launched an investigation into the accident.
