Bank Unions Call Off 3-Day Strike as IBA Agrees to Panel on 5-Day Work Week
Bank unions deferred their three-day nationwide strike following a breakthrough agreement with the Indian Banks' Association (IBA).
The pact comes as a major relief to customers and businesses, avoiding severe disruptions ahead of the critical half-yearly financial closing.
The centerpiece of the agreement is the formation of a joint high-level committee to evaluate introducing a five-day work week.
Currently, banks remain open on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of every month. The committee will explore operational models to declare all Saturdays as official bank holidays while ensuring uninterrupted customer service.
Additionally, both parties agreed to address residual issues from previous settlements and review the Performance-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for senior officers.
With the strike call deferred, operations across public and private sector bank branches continue normally.
