Right-Wing Influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj Detained in Bulandshahr Over Alleged Assault
Self-styled right-wing influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj has been detained by police in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, following massive public outrage over a violent altercation at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
The controversy erupted after a viral podcast clip emerged showing Bhardwaj casually boasting about cracking the skull of Sanjay Kumar, the father of student activist Nishu Azad, during a Cockroach Janta Party protest.
The escalating outrage prompted widespread demonstrations led by Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad outside the Parliament Street Police Station, demanding immediate arrests and strict legal action.
Under mounting pressure, Delhi Police expanded the existing First Information Report to include provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Although Bhardwaj claimed online that his actions were defensive and that the video was edited out of context, authorities tracked him down across state lines.
Police are currently evaluating medical reports to potentially upgrade charges while investigating separate online intimidation complaints.
