Allahabad HC Quashes NSA Detention of Aakriti Chaudhary, Orders Rs 5 Lakh Compensation
The Allahabad High Court quashed the National Security Act detention of Delhi University graduate Aakriti Chaudhary, calling the police's case of her involvement in the April Noida workers' protest a "concocted story."
A division bench of Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Achal Sachdev highlighted that Chaudhary was taken into custody on April 11—two days before the violence erupted on April 13.
The court ordered Rs 5 lakh in compensation to be recovered directly from the responsible district magistrate and police officials.
While her NSA detention is set aside, Chaudhary remains in Kasna jail as she still faces pending bail pleas across six remaining FIRs out of eleven total cases filed against her.
Meanwhile, a similar habeas corpus petition filed by co-accused journalist Satyam Verma remains pending before the high court.
