CJP Leaders Detained After Defying Jantar Mantar Protest Ban
Delhi Police placed key leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) under preventive arrest following a dramatic breach of the recently denotified protest site at Jantar Mantar.
Chief spokesperson Saurav Das, national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde bypassed heavy police barricades in the early hours to stage an unauthorized demonstration.
The action directly challenges an October 11, 2026 Delhi Police standing order issued by Commissioner Anurag Kumar, which completely denotified Jantar Mantar as a protest venue, relocating all demonstrations to designated peripheral sites like Ramlila Maidan and Burari Ground.
Law enforcement swiftly intervened, registering an FIR against the prominent CJP figures for trespassing, obstructing public officials, and violating peace bonds.
Authorities stated that strict action was necessary to uphold the new security and public order directives.
Despite the detentions, the CJP stood defiant, releasing a statement that asserted, "Resistance cannot be denotified."
The party argues that stripping the capital's political core of protest rights is a direct attempt to silence public dissent.
The detained leaders are scheduled to be produced before the Special Executive Magistrate Court at Mandir Marg as tensions surrounding the new protest regulations continue to escalate across the national capital.
