NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the ruling government and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his immediate resignation.
Addressing a press conference, Gandhi claimed with certainty that the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and subsequent state assembly elections were entirely rigged.
The aggressive political offensive follows recent investigative reports revealing internal rifts within the Election Commission of India (ECI).
According to the reports, two other Election Commissioners recorded formal objections on multiple occasions regarding poll panel decisions and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah orchestrated a systematic conspiracy of "vote theft", warning that a compromised electoral framework undermines the entire foundation of the Indian Constitution, laws, and democratic institutions.
The Election Commission and the ruling party have strongly rejected the allegations, maintaining that internal deliberations and noting differences are part of standard administrative functioning and that ultimate decisions reflect collective oversight.
