All EC Directions Legally Sound, Internal Debates Standard Practice: Poll Panel Clarifies
The Delhi : The Election Commission (EC) issued an official clarification asserting that all administrative directions and panel decisions possess complete legal backing under The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023.
The response follows media scrutiny regarding internal friction and dissent among panel members—specifically concerning red flags raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over the pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Defending the internal dialogue, the poll body stated that holding contrasting perspectives, raising queries, and sharing critical observations during draft stages are standard administrative practices. The EC emphasized that such deliberation aims to safeguard voter rights and refine electoral processes before arriving at a final consensus. Furthermore, the Commission noted that input-sharing is not restricted to the top commissioners alone, as officers across levels are fully authorized to propose improvements to strengthen the electoral mechanism.
