Tragedy on Yamuna Expressway: 9 Dead as Sleeper Bus Erupts in Flames Near Noida Airport
A tragic late-night accident on the Yamuna Expressway near Greater Noida left nine passengers dead and several others injured after a moving sleeper bus caught fire.
The private vehicle, traveling from Delhi, suddenly turned into a fireball near the 33-km milestone under the Jewar police station jurisdiction.
According to survivors, passengers woke up to thick smoke and a burning smell, prompting frantic escapes.
While several people managed to break windows and jump out to safety, others were tragically trapped inside the fast-spreading blaze.
Local police and fire departments rushed to the scene to douse the flames and transport the injured to a nearby hospital.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed profound grief over the incident, announcing financial ex-gratia relief for the victims' families while directing local authorities to ensure top-priority medical care for the survivors.
An investigation into the exact cause of the fire is currently underway.
