Supreme Court Clarifies: No Official Approval for Modified Form 6
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant stated that the Supreme Court has not approved any modified version of Form 6 used for voter registration by the Election Commission.
This followed the poll panel's claim that its new declaration, tied to the Special Intensive Revision process, had been upheld.
Expressing strong disapproval of structural changes made without amending the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, a bench led by CJI Kant demanded official records to see who authorized the modifications.
While declining immediate interim orders, the court stressed that no alterations to statutory forms carry its endorsement.
This controversy highlights mounting friction regarding administrative changes within the election body and the strict statutory boundaries governing voter registration across the country.
