Delhi HC Refuses to Quash Rs 10,000 Peace Bond Notice for AISA Chief Neha Bora
The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition by All India Students' Association president Neha Bora challenging a notice from a Special Executive Magistrate that directed her to furnish a personal bond of ₹10,000 with a surety to maintain peace.
The action arose from her brief detention during an October 16 anti-SIR protest march. Delhi Police defended the move, citing past violations around restricted zones like Jantar Mantar, while Bora’s counsel contended her social media calls were strictly peaceful.
Justice Subramonium Prasad upheld the authorities' preventive jurisdiction but provided important safeguards.
He ordered that all supporting material be disclosed to Bora and directed the magistrate to examine Section 135 of the BNSS to determine if demanding an immediate bond was necessary or if it should depend on the inquiry's outcome.
