Tragedy in Tarapith: Hotel Fire Kills Seven Pilgrims in West Bengal
A devastating Monday early morning around 4:30 AM fire swept through a private hotel near the revered Tarapith temple in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, leaving at least seven pilgrims dead and several others critically injured.
The blaze erupted on the ground floor of the multi-storey building around dawn, quickly trapping dozens of sleeping visitors.
The temple town was heavily crowded with devotees arriving for special prayers on the final Monday of the auspicious month of Shravan.
Thick smoke rapidly engulfed the upper floors before occupants could escape. Local authorities and fire tenders rushed to the scene to battle the flames and rescue trapped guests, who were immediately rushed to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital.
Preliminary investigations by fire officials suggest an electrical short circuit on the ground floor likely triggered the disaster.
Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the tragedy, announcing compensation for the affected families as probe teams investigate the safety lapses.
