TMC Submits New Name and Symbol Choices to ECI Under Protest

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction led by Mamata Banerjee has submitted its alternative preferences for a party name and election symbol to the Election Commission of India (ECI), registering its opposition.

The poll panel's interim order froze the official "All India Trinamool Congress" (AITC) name and the "flowers and grass" symbol due to an ongoing intra-party power struggle.

With upcoming bypolls approaching, the ECI directed both rival camps to provide three alternative options for temporary group names and free symbols.

While complying with the directive to ensure participation in the upcoming electoral contest, the Mamata camp strongly protested the temporary loss of its 30-year political identity.

The faction argues that the ECI's decision unfairly penalizes the original leadership during an internal dispute, raising critical questions about how symbol freezes are handled ahead of crucial elections.
