India Refuses to Bow to US Tariff Pressures Over Russian Oil
New Delhi has strongly defended its sovereign right to energy security following the US Congress's passage of the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, which grants the American administration power to slap up to 100% tariffs on major buyers of Russian crude.
With discounted Russian oil forming a crucial cushion against global market volatility, India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that national interest and the needs of its 1.4 billion citizens remain absolute priorities.
While monitoring the bill ahead of its presidential signing, New Delhi has maintained high-level diplomatic communication with Washington, warning against measures that destabilize global energy markets.
India insists its independent trade policies are designed strictly to safeguard domestic economic stability, signaling that it will not compromise its energy partnerships under foreign pressure.
