Pak Navy Vessel Collides with Indian Navy Ship: MEA Summons Pakistan Charge d'Affaires
New Delhi: India summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires in New Delhi to lodge a strong diplomatic protest following a collision between a Pakistan Navy vessel and an Indian Navy warship in the North Arabian Sea on September 15, 2026.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the incident occurred in international waters while the frontline Indian warship was on a routine surveillance mission. The Pakistani vessel approached at high speed, executing unsafe and unprofessional maneuvers that directly resulted in the collision. Fortunately, swift remedial actions prevented any major structural damage or casualties on either side.
During the summons, New Delhi strongly condemned Pakistan's unacceptable conduct, emphasizing that it violated the April 1991 bilateral Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres, and Troop Movements—specifically Article 10, which governs maritime safety and protocol. The MEA cautioned the Pakistani diplomat to ensure their naval assets exercise due restraint, adhere to international maritime safety standards, and respect bilateral pacts to prevent escalation.
Simultaneously, India's diplomatic mission in Islamabad delivered a parallel formal protest to Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterating New Delhi's firm stance on maintaining maritime safety and accountability in the region.
