Omani Pilot Flagged in 2024 Launched Cockpit Attack on Flydubai Flight
The Omani co-pilot who launched a cockpit attack and nearly crashed a Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai flight has been identified as Hamam al- Hammami.
Investigative reports reveal that al- Hammami was previously flagged as a security risk in 2024 while working for Oman Air after extremist materials were discovered in his possession.
Despite being grounded from flight duties, he was shifted to an administrative role rather than being terminated, allowing him to subsequently secure employment with Flydubai.
During Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, al-Hammami attacked Captain Smit Machchhar, causing the Boeing 737 Max to plunge nearly 14,000 feet.
Despite severe stab wounds, Captain Machchhar unlocked the cockpit door, enabling passengers, crew, and off-duty pilots to overpower the attacker and safely land in Saudi Arabia.
Preliminary investigations indicate al-Hammami underwent radical Islamist indoctrination.
