BJP Overhauls UP Rajya Sabha List, Drops Puri and Incumbents
In a major strategic shake-up ahead of the biennial polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dropped all eight of its sitting Rajya Sabha MPs from Uttar Pradesh whose terms are expiring, notably excluding Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and B.L.
For the upcoming elections, the party unveiled a completely fresh slate of eight candidates: Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, and Shruti Gangwar.
Political analysts view this total overhaul as a calculated move by the party leadership to inject new blood and restructure its representation.
By opting for a clean slate, the leadership aims to balance key caste equations—giving representation to diverse social groups including OBC, Dalit, and upper-caste communities—while realigning its organizational priorities in the politically crucial state.
