UPA Listened to Hazare, Centre Ignores Wangchuk: Omar Abdullah's Sharp Contrast
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sharply criticized the Central government’s silence toward educator-activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike.
Abdullah drew a stark contrast with the UPA era, recalling how Prime Minister Manmohan Singh proactively sent senior ministers to engage in dialogue with Anna Hazare during his 2011 anti-corruption protest.
In contrast, Abdullah noted that the current administration remains completely unmoved despite Wangchuk’s rapidly deteriorating health. Wangchuk, who has lost over nine kilograms on his fast, is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the massive NEET paper leak controversy.
Urging the ruling government to prioritize "humanity and compassion" over political standoffs, Abdullah called for immediate official dialogue.
Meanwhile, as serious health concerns escalate, the Delhi High Court has directed daily medical checkups for the fasting activist.
