SP Leader Azam Khan Detained by ED Immediately Following Rampur Jail Release

Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Mohammad Azam Khan was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) minutes after walking out of Rampur District Jail.

An ED team from the Lucknow zonal office, backed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, apprehended Khan right outside the prison gates.

The agency's action is part of an ongoing money laundering probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) involving the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust and Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.

The investigation centers on alleged financial irregularities, land grabbing, and the illegal diversion of government funds to construct the university campus.

The detention comes shortly after the agency provisionally attached university assets valued at approximately ₹1,170 crore. ED officials confirmed that following standard arrest procedures, Khan will be produced before a special PMLA court in Ghaziabad.
