Cyclone Arnab Completes Landfall Along Andhra Pradesh Coast High Alert Issued for Heavy Rains
Amravati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab completed its landfall process along the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts early Wednesday morning. The storm crossed near Narsapur and Kakinada with sustained wind speeds of 125–135 kmph, gusting up to 150 kmph.
As the center moved entirely inland, the system weakened from a very severe cyclonic storm to a severe cyclonic storm. It is currently tracking north-northwestward and is projected to degrade into a deep depression within the next 12 hours.
Coastal districts including Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, and Machilipatnam experienced heavy downpours, severe storm surges, and strong winds.
Uprooted trees and snapped power transmission lines caused electricity outages and blocked main transport routes across northern coastal Andhra Pradesh. Two fatalities due to storm-related accidents were reported.
Flight operations at Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada airports were halted, while South Central Railway suspended dozens of train services.
More than 2,100 evacuation centers are active. Heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect for southern Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
