INDIA Bloc Levels Six Charges Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Demands Treason Trial
The Opposition INDIA bloc launched an unprecedented attack on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar during a symbolic "public impeachment" in New Delhi, demanding his removal and trial for treason.
Led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, the bloc outlined six specific charges:
Conspiring to manipulate elections to favor the ruling party.
Arbitrarily deleting nearly 14 crore voters from electoral rolls.
Unilaterally altering voter registration Form 6 without parliamentary approval.
Enforcing centralized control over voter rolls via custom software.
Marginalizing fellow Election Commissioners from key decisions.
Operating directly under executive directives from top government leaders.
The opposition also demanded the repeal of the 2023 Election Commission Appointment Act.
Conversely, the government dismissed all allegations, maintaining that the voter list revision is a standard constitutional process and accusing the opposition of undermining democratic institutions.
