A devastating building collapse in South-West Delhi’s Satya Niketan area has claimed multiple lives, prompting the Delhi Police to register a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the property owner for culpable homicide and negligence.
The five-storey structure, operating illegally as a boys' paying guest accommodation, was originally cleared only for ground-plus-one expansion.
Initial municipal investigations indicate that unauthorized basement excavation critically compromised the building's structural integrity.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced an aggressive sealing drive targeting illegal multi-storey constructions across the locality.
City officials have been instructed to identify and seal vulnerable adjoining structures to prevent further disasters.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has ordered a comprehensive magisterial inquiry to fix accountability, warning of strict departmental action against any municipal officials found complicit in overlooking the rampant unauthorized real estate expansions.
