Adani Defence Secures 5-Year Deal for Made-in-India AK-203 Ammunition
Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed a strategic five-year agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) to supply indigenous 7.62x39 mm small-calibre ammunition.
The ammunition will power the AK-203 assault rifles currently being manufactured for the Indian Armed Forces at the Korwa ordnance factory in Amethi.
Production will take place at Adani Defence's advanced manufacturing facility in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
This partnership strengthens India's defence self-reliance by building a domestic, private-sector supply chain for core military consumables.
IRRPL—a joint venture between Indian public sector enterprises and Russian partners Kalashnikov and Rosoboronexport—is overseeing the landmark procurement of over 600,000 rifles to replace ageing INSAS weapons.
By integrating private defense manufacturing capabilities with state-owned defense programs, the initiative ensures operational supply continuity, reduces foreign dependencies, and significantly advances the nation’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat objectives. Financial terms and specific volume quantities remain undisclosed.
