Ram Mandir Donation Theft: SIT to File Chargesheet by Sept 25
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the alleged embezzlement of donations at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir will file its first chargesheet by September 25.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court that meeting this deadline is legally critical to prevent the arrested suspects from securing statutory default bail.
The four-member SIT, headed by IGP Kiran S, conducted a rigorous forensic audit and reviewed CCTV footage of the donation-counting room from April 27 to June 5.
Investigators reportedly uncovered over 100 instances of staff concealing cash inside their clothing and shoes.
While the Supreme Court reviewed the SIT's status report, it declined requests to make the findings public to protect the integrity of the upcoming trial.
In response to these governance and supervisory lapses, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has initiated major administrative overhauls and implemented automated, tech-driven counting and surveillance systems.
