Maharashtra Minister's Niece Nila Vikhe Patil Elected to Sweden's Parliament

Nila Vikhe Patil, a 41-year-old Green Party politician with deep roots in Maharashtra, has been elected to Sweden's 349-member national parliament, the Riksdag, representing the Stockholm City constituency.

Her election coincides with Sweden's left-leaning opposition bloc securing a narrow majority in the general elections.

Nila brings extensive policy experience to the legislature, having previously served as a political adviser in the Swedish Prime Minister's Office under Stefan Löfven, managing files on finance, taxation, and housing, alongside her tenure on the Stockholm City Council.

Coming from a prominent political dynasty, she is the daughter of educationist Ashok Vikhe Patil, the granddaughter of former Union Minister Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, and the niece of senior Maharashtra BJP minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil.

Though born in Sweden, she spent her early years in Ahmednagar and maintains close cultural ties to India. In parliament, she aims to focus on children's welfare and environmental protection.
