Funding Slump: AAP Donations Drop 68%, BJD Declares Zero Contributions
Recent Election Commission data for the financial year 2025–26 reveals sharp financial declines for prominent regional parties following electoral setbacks.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reported total donations of ₹12.10 crore, marking a 68% fall from ₹38.10 crore the previous year.
This follows AAP losing power in Delhi, with nearly 83% of its funds coming from just two donors: Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited.
Meanwhile, Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) declared zero donations above ₹20,000, a 100% drop from the ₹60 crore reported in 2024–25.
Political analysts attribute these steep reductions to shifting corporate funding patterns.
Major donors frequently realign their financial support based on whether a political party holds governing power in a state or nationally, mirroring similar financial downturns faced by other recently defeated ruling parties.
